NEW VEGAN SALON IN NOTTINGHAM.

A new vegan + natural salon has opened up in Nottingham! I'm so happy that the female-founded business La Piel (meaning skin in Spanish) is up and running in the heart of Hockley at 20 Carlton Street above the Q Hair Salon. The salon is run by mother-and-daughter duo Anne and Bethan, and I was put in contact with them through a mutal friend and they very kindly invited me to have a look around and try out one of their treatments. I'm so grateful for the experience and would highly recommend La Piel if you're looking for a cruelty-free salon!

It is obvious when speaking to the two lovely ladies that they are both really passionate about educating people on the benefits of natural skincare. I love that the products used in their treatments are all homemade, with Anne having specific training in the area. Their love for nature as an effective tool for beauty and wellbeing also comes through in the treatments they provide, with them opting for natural products wherever possible in their massages and brow, lash and nail treatments. In my consultation pre-facial, Anne explained the ingredients in the products used which was really interestng (including Neroli oil, an ingredient which I had surprisingly little knowledge of the benefits).

The space in the salon is really light and nicely decorated. Upstairs in the treatment room, Anne did an assessment on my skin - asking me what skin type I have and what products I currently use. She emphasised that (generally) the simpler the ingredients you can use on your skin, the better. We were in complete agreement that a lot of the products for sale in stores are jam-packed with preservatives and fillers that bring little-to-no benefit to the skin. We settled on a treatment with products aiming to provide glowiness to the skin, as I generally tend to look for hydrating or brightening products in my skincare routine.

I had an express Radiance facial. It lasted about 35 minutes, with the full treatment lasting 60 minutes. I have to say, if I had had the full hour of treatment, I may have fallen asleep. It was hands-down one of the most relaxing half-hours of my life. I have to admit that I didn't really know what to expect because I have never had a facial treatment before (only ever dabbling with DIY at-home kinda situations as I've never had too much disposable income whilst being interested in natural beauty), but I was so so impressed with the results and the relaxation of the overall experience. It was like meditation! And I do have experience in meditating. And this was a very effective form of mind-clearing and soul-cleansing.

The treatment was on the afternoon of my last university exam, so I was definitely in need of some relaxation and TLC. Various oils and creams were massaged into the face, neck and shoulders. Anne also got me to inhale the scent of the oils before applying them to my skin, bringing a whole-body relaxation experience. Honestly, as a gal who had previously questioned whether facials were worth the money, I would 10/10 recommend La Piel for a treatment and will definitely be returning if I'm ever back in Nottingham. I also think a treatment package would make an amazing gift for a birthday for someone who has recently gone vegan or who prioritises natural ingredients in their skincare!

Here is the description of the Radiance facial I had...

'Revitalising and hydrating, the Radiance facial boosts the skin's natural brightness. Blends of rosehip oil and vitamin E encourage even skin tone and texture, great for those who suffer with redness, pigmentation or dry and uneven skin. Neroli and orange blossom oils are massaged into the skin to feed skin cells and lift mood, encouraging a lasting glow from the inside out.'

For more botanical facial options and their prices, check out their treatment offerings hereThey have lots of vegan and natural options for beauty and skincare treatments, so make sure you drop them a message to find out which treatments are vegan. They're very kindly currently offering a 25% discount until the end of July and their student discount is 20% all year round. If you're a Nottingham local, catch them at Park Market on the last Sunday of every month. I know that the future is bright for these ladies and I'm so happy to have discovered this female-founded family business with similar passions to me about natural and vegan beauty.
